Christmas Card Photos 2010

I like to try to do something different each year for their Christmas photo. This wasn't my first idea, and I have since passed that idea on (or I'll use it next year) and came up with this one.

I saw this truck this summer with flowers growing out of it, and wanted to get back and take pictures but never got too. I thought of it again when I started trying to find ideas for the kids christmas pictures. I was hoping to have the lights lit up, but my power converter in my car just couldn't seem to do the job.

Anyway, I like the way they turned out. The wind was WICKED today, but they turned out cute.

Little Grandma picked up these Gingerbread house kits for the kids to make. We spent a couple days at Little Paps, so they were anxious to get to Little Grandma & Big Pap's house so they could do their crafts.

Abigail lost her first tooth

Abigail's tooth has been pretty wiggly for a few days. She's been waiting for a long time to loose her tooth , especially since Caleb has already lost 3.

Last night I asked her if she wanted it pulled and at first she said no, but then she said yes. It had been hurting her.

I used a paper towel, and it took 2 tries, but we got it out. She was so excited and so proud. They are both getting so big!

Abigail has been getting in our bed every night. This morning as I went to wake her up, Molly jumped on the bed besdie her and flopped over. Then Abigail rolled over and put her leg over Molly, and both started drifting back to sleep. They were so cute.

Molly sure does love those kids, and they love her just as much.

As I was getting breakfast ready for the kids the other morning, I looked out the window and say this beautiful blue sky filled with thes big puffy clouds. I had to get a picture! Some friends said the clouds look like big birds floating/flying gently by.

This week at school the kids made Native American shirts, headbands and necklaces. I was so lucky in that I got to help make the shirts and in the process get to know some of the other parents, and Abigail and Caleb's friends. I loved it!

The kids wore all their stuff at school today and had a Thanksgiving lunch. I know they had a great day.

When we got home I had to get a few pictures of them with all their stuff on. :)

Pearly Whites

Abigail & Caleb both had their 6 month dental cleanings today, and both looked and did FABULOUS! Caleb was a little apprehensive because of his last visit where he had two cavities, and we had to get them filled. But the hygenists and the dentist are great with interacting with the kids, and got him in the chair with his mouth wide open in no time. (they talked about tatoos, and they they were cool!)

Abigail has a few slightly wiggly teeth, but hasn't lost any yet. Caleb has 4 wiggly teeth, and has lost 3 previously (with 2 already grown back in!)

I always forget to take the camera to the dentist with me, but I did get pictures of them with their new from the dentist suction bottom toothbrushes once we got home. While I was in the other room with Caleb, Abigail told the hygienist that their favorite colors were orange (Caleb) and purple (her) so that's what color toothbrushes they got! She's always looking out for her brother, and he does the same for her!

Bad & Good Game

Abigail and Caleb played outside this evening. I love that they always have a playmate (or usually, as long as the other one cooperates).

They have become fascinated with this little dogwood tree and anything they can do with it. The other day was climbing it, today was playing a different game. They called it Bad & Good.

I guess Caleb would right bad or good things on a piece of paper, then he would pass it through the tree branches to Abigail and she would decide if it was bad or good, then either throw it in a hole if it was bad, or put it beside Caleb if it was good. I love their imaginations!

Of course I had to include the mooch. She love love loves her frisbees (she has 2). She has played with them so much that she has punched a tooth hole through them, and when she grabs them in her mouth, usually it will end up hanging off her tooth! Crazy dog!

October/November randomness

Obviously I feel behind on blogging/posting pictures, so I'm tryin to catch up and do better. So, below are some random pictures/fun from October and November. Not the best quality pictures, but just fun time with the kids.

We had a fun time playing tail tag with Daddy one evening!

Then it was Halloween. We had a Ballerina & a Buzz Lightyear this year.

Red Ribbon week at school (Drug Awareness) brought out the silly in the kids. This was crazy hair day.

Molly loves any kind of food you give her, even pizza!

Election Day came and went, and our little voters went with me this year. We all usually go together but since we had to get Abigail to gymnastics, we couldn't wait for Daddy. Abigail & Caleb both got to push the buttons to help Mommy vote. They always get the "I voted" stickers and we always get a picture of them with the stickers.

Daddy has been spending alot of time working on Mommy's car, and Abigail & Caleb wanted to help by holding the flashlight.

It was spirit week at school this week and Tuesday was Pajama Day. Caleb almost wore his footie pajamas but decided against it at the last minute.

We've had a couple of warmer days this past week and the kids were able to play outside. One of their favorite spots was this big hole that Molly has dug. But after digging in it, they tracked dirt/mud into the house and onto the carpet. Realizing what they had done, they took their shoes off on the back porch and grabbed the vaccuum (it was sitting in the living room where I had been vacuuming) and vacuumed up their mess! Awesome kids!

They've been asking to climb this little dogwood tree for a while and I've always said no. But I was distracted enough the other day, and Little Pap was here and outside with them, so he let (helped) them climb the tree. Crazy monkey kids!
Caleb's plan was to climb out the tree and slide down Abigai's pocketbook strap (that was not even attached to the tree!)

Fun Fall Day

We played outside for a while the other day and of course I took that opportunity to get some shots! :) At one point I asked Caleb to kiss Abigail on the cheek and she took off running yellinng "no, no! He'll slobber on me" which made for some great shots! Then of course she had to kiss him. The collages tell the story.

Yum-Yum Fridays

Since the first day of school I have been putting cards in the kids lunch boxes. One day when it was so hot, I decided to take them ice-cream after school, and on their card I put Yum-Yum and told them I would have a surprise for them after school. The next week I did the same thing with Mini M&M's. And a tradition was born - Yum-Yum Fridays! Every Friday now I make them a card with a hint in it about what the yummy surprise is going to be, and they try to guess. It's always fun to hear their guesses when they get in the car.

This week the surprise was cupcakes. Little Grandma is staying with us for a week or so, and she made the cupcakes for me today while I was working! She is awesome!

Today was also Fun Friday! The kids finally got 10 stickers on their "hands" at school and got to go to Fun Friday today - together! They were so thrilled!

Chore Chart

I've been checking in on my good friend Jennifer's blog, and she has been posting wonderful photos and stories of what her and her daughter have been doing, and it has inspired me to try to start being more diligent in posting to my blog about me & mine! :)

I got this chore chart from Staples hoping that it helps me to help the kids be more on track with their daily routine and "chores". The idea is that at the end of the week if they do well, they will get a small prize. Last week they did not get the prize because they refused to pick up their room. So far they are on track since they cleaned their room this evening (with Mommy's help of course).

Then I told them to "pose" for a few pictures. Love their poses! :)

And I HAD to take a picture of this upside down turkey. Caleb and Abigail put it on the back door, and they always play with it, look at it, or talk about it when we leave for school in the morning. So last night I turned it upside down and they thought it was hilarous when they saw it this morning! But of course they turned it right side up. Tonight I turned it upside down again! :) I love messing with them!

I had an early morning senior photo session with the beautiful Michlle this morning. She and her Mom were so much fun. We started at the Short Pump Town Center and ended up at Maymont Park in Richmond. What gorgeous areas to take pictures!

my poor baby girl was so sad that their new "pets" (worms)were gone this morning. I told her that it was too cold outside in their bowl of dirt and that they crawled back in the ground where they would be warm. She cried big crocodile tears. This was after she calmed down some, but was still sad...

March 18, 2010 - Beautiful Spring Day

It was a beautiful Spring Day so the kids headed outside to play. They've been playing in a big hole that muttley (aka: Molly) keeps digging up, but today wanted to play in the sand box.

A little while later I heard them screaming and ran to see what was wrong. Nothing was wrong, they were screaming because they were happy...they found DAPHNE! Daphne spent the winter in the sandbox. Abigail has been so sad and looking everywhere for her. Caleb is the hero, he's the one who found her.

We have this tree in our backyard that Ryan had damaged the roots on when he ran electric to the outbuilding. The top of the tree has been dying for several years and now its moving down the tree. We were worried about the kids playing out there, and the potential of it falling on the house, so it had to come down.

March 14, 2010 - more signs of Spring & computer work

I was so glad to be able to get out of the house after being cooped up several days suffering with a bad sinus cold. Looking out the window I could see greenery around the garden, and more of the bright beautiful crocuses.

Later in the evening Ryan decided to take apart his computer to clean all the dust and dirt off the fans/inside the computer. Abigail LOVES this kind of stuff and was right there to help him. (and it only took 3 times putting it together and taking it back apart to get it working again!) :)

March 11, 2010 - Spring is here!

Abigail found some crocuses in the yard today! We originally planted them in the front yard in the flower bed several years ago and the squirrels dug them all up and moved them to the back yard where they now grow randomly in the yard!

Abigail also found their play tent in the closet and wanted it put up. Later Abigail, Caleb and Daddy laid in it and watched the Incredibles (notice the outfits the kids have on). :)

March 6, 2010 - WV

We went to WV for the weekend, to see family and be with Dad for an appt.

They still had some snow left and the kids thought it was awesome! They got out their snow shovels and shoveled snow. Hope when they get bigger they like to shovel it like they do now! :)

March 1, 2010 - Caleb lost a tooth (his first one!)

Finally...Caleb does something first! He lost a tooth first, and he's so proud!

It's been hanging loose for a little while but he never wanted us to pull it. We've been worried though that it might come out and he's swallow it.

Tonight we had him try to pull it, and he said no. I told him that if he tried and it came out I'd let him watch a movie (he had asked earlier and I said no, it was bedtime). He tried a couple times but said it would hurt. So I asked him if I could and he said no. But then he let me try and it came right out and he didn't even realize it. :D

He was so excited, and so proud. We had to go into another room with better light for some better pictures, then he had to call Big Pap & Little Grandma, and Little Pap to tell them. :)

Abigail is a little sad..she said she doesn't know when she'll EVER lose a tooth. :)

February 26, 27, & 28 - We are Family!

We had a family weekend at our house. My Dad (Little Pap) came, my sister Tina and her boys Tyler & Aaron came, my baby brother Ed and his girlfriend Ashlee (my other sister) :) and her two boys Aidan and Austin came. The only ones missing were my older brother Noel, his daughter Meg and her son Dade.

We had a full house, but it was filled with fun, laughter and love. Of course we had the occasional tears and squabbles over toys...but they had fun!

First night..dinner and a movie for the kids (lasagna & SpongeBob). I love having the "kids table" and the "adults table". reminds me of when we were young. :)

February 24, 2010 - Caleb's loose tooth

We went to the child study center this morning for 2 fun studies. One day I'm going to ask if I can take pictures during the studies just so I can document our day.

On our way home Caleb started talking about his loose tooth. Abigail wanted him to play the "silly game" where we state very silly things like "How about - the snow is purple" or "How about - a dog is a tree" and we all have to laugh hysterically. :)

Caleb said "I can't do much - my tooth is loose!" :)

As soon as we got home Caleb said that we had ato write a letter to the Tooth Fairy so that we could tell her that when she comes to get his tooth and leave money, that he wants her to leave his tooth (he wants to keep it).

He rarely initiates/wants to write a letter so I stopped everything I was doing and we wrote the letter.

Here's what he wanted it to say:

February 23, 2010 - Thanks to the Winter Storm

Thanks to the major winter storm/power outage we had, our heat pump is KAPOOT! Or at least part of it is.

the night the power went out, it kept trying to come back on. It must have flashed 50 times in 10 minutes or less. When the power finally came back on 3 days later and we tried to start our heat pump..it kept tripping the breaker and making the lights flash.

We called in the experts

and the verdict was that our compressor is shot. The snow and power surges caused it to burn up.

So the guys came out to repair it:

once it was running we found out there is more damage and we are working to figure out all that....repair/replace? Ugh. :(

February 23, 2010 - Mice in my car

I have not been able to put winshield washer fluid in my car for almost a year. As soon as I put fluid in, it was gone the next day. At first I thought the leak was outside under the car and blamed it on Ryan from when he ran us into the ditch last winter when it snowed.

As time went on I noticed that my floorboard was wet usually after I put fluid in (for trips). One day I was at a garage and a guy told me that his daughter had the same car as me and had the same issue..and that there was a connector in the line on the floor by the door (where my floor was wet)and that it had come undone on hers, so I decided to check mine.

I pulled the panels off, lifted the protective channel and this is what I saw:

The mice had chewed into my electrical wires and into my windshield washer line! And...I didn't take a picture, but there was a dead mouse there! YECH! YUCK! YICK!

The windshield washer fluid was just leaking into my car/floorboard and all over the wires. I usually ended up with a static"y" speaker after I put fluid in and now I know why.

I have had problems with mice in my car before. Chewing the foam out of my seats, chewing up tissues/napkins in the car, making nest in my glove box and tire jack area. And this car is driven almost every day! I set traps, but don't know what else to do to get rid of them! I told Ryan now it will be worse since the varmit under our house is gone (see post below). :(

February 20 - Leveling the House & a SNAKE under there too!

Our house has been developing cracks around door frames for some time now. Ryan went under the house (crawl space) to check for level using a water level. He filled a garden hose with colored water and put clear tubes on each end. He attached one end to a board at the door opening, and then crawled around under the house to check to see if it was level.

Turns out the house had sunk about 1/2" to 3/4" in the middle. He jacked it up and put shims on the pillars to level it back up.

Halfway through he yelled..you need to go out for a minute. I of course asked why and he said that he needed to throw a critter out...this is what he found/saw/heard crawling under the plastic under the house: A SNAKE!

February 18, 2010- Baby Zach

We got news that our friends Mike & Michelle had their 3rd son on February 13. We were so excited to meet their newest arrival, Zachary Andrew.

The kids enjoyed playing with Jake & Brody while I got to enjoy visiting with Michelle and baby Zach.

I was only able to get a few pictures. He was having a rough day. We'll try again soon.

February 14, 2010 - Valentines Day

Valentines Day is a pretty low key day for us, but I did make some heart shape pancakes for Abigail and Wall-E & Eve pancakes for Caleb. Wall-E loves Eve, and Caleb loves Wall-E & Eve. :)

A couple weeks before we made Valentines to hand out to their friends, and then we had some last minute ones to make. Abigail made these hearts...one set for her, one set for Caleb.

Scooters in the house

There was so much snow outside, and it was so cold out, that the kids wanted to know if they could ride the scooters in the house. They got them for Christmas and probably hadn't rode them since Christmas, so I said yes. Abigail LOVES her scooter and wants to ride it all the time.

Winter Storm February 5, 6, 7, & 8

It started snowing Friday night and we woke up to this Saturday morning. It was a wet, heavy snow and trees were down all over the place, including one in the road and on our mailbox. Someone stopped and cut the tree out of the road.

The power went out during the night so we moved the kids out to the living room, and started a fire in the fireplace.

Ryan found the propane burners so I made him some coffee.

I just boiled water then poured it through the coffee maker..same concept huh? :)

The kids wanted popcorn so we cooked microwave popcorn in a pan over the propane burner. We had battery left on the laptop so they were able to have a popcorn and a movie.

The next morning...BRRR..cold outside

and inside! We had to get up every 2-3 hours to put wood in the fire. See everyone snuggled deep in the covers here? One on the couch, one one the recliner, and one on the loveseat.

A new day...still no power

Another breakfast on the propane burners....sausage, bacon and eggs and we even tried biscuts (didn't work too well..I needed to be more patient)

Uh-oh...someone has a pink, crusty eye. Daddy had pink eye the previous week..looks like Abigail got it. We called the doctor's office and the answering service said they weren't returning calls and if we needed to see a doctor, we had to go to the Emergency Room..so we did. yep, it was pink eye.

Another uh-oh. Not sure where this water is coming from...never did find out.

On our trip home from the ER we saw this silhouette and decided to try to find it (the smoke) What else did we have to do. (we never did find it)

The moon was out full again and I wanted to try to get some more moon on the snow shots. I was out the door at 4:30am...BRRRRR it was cold! I only got a few..I saw several shots but couldn't always get off the road or didn't want to pull in someone's driveway that early in the morning and freak them out. This is about all I got...

In my travels I went through a low lying area next to a creek and everythign was covered in ice crystals. I went home and went back out later to get some pictures of them.

The creek was pretty too. The sun came up and everything was glistening.

On the way home I stopped to get some pictures of some horses in the field, but they were too curious and came to check me out.

and for proof of how cold it was. The radio dj's kept saying 26 degrees in Central VA, but my car disagreed.

Todays plans were to do a few things around here then ride around and get snow pictures. Goes to show what happens when you plan things..they don't always work out that way.

Around 10:30am we lost power. We were semi-prepared...we had wood on the porch (covered) and we filled the tub up with water (for those wondering why....it's a great source of water to warm up and clean up with, or to flush toilets!) We hadn't built a fire in the fireplace yet, we didn't want to burn up the wood in case we needed it later...and now we needed it. So we built a fire, we hauled up more wood, we shoveled snow, and Ryan got some propane tanks filled for our portable propane heater.

It's always interesting trying to figure out what we'll eat when the electric is out. Today we made Hobo pies in the fireplace...

later the wood was piled perfectly to set an iron skillet on it to heat yesterdays breakfast leftovers.

Later we piled the wood semi-level again to heat some water in our cast iron dutch oven so that Ryan could clean up and shave. It was boiling in no time!

Getting close to dark and the temp in the house is dropping. I have to say, I'm impressed with how well the fireplace did. We closed all the bedroom doors and only heated the living room, kitchen, hall and bathroom, and it got up to 71 in the living room.

Ryan made a run to Lowe's to get propane for our heater and was supposed to get food while he was out. The kids were hungry before he got back so they ate some Lunchables from the fridge.

Ryan remembered that we had some burners to fit on the little propane tanks. He dug them out of the attic part of the building and we fixed dinner on them...macaroni and cheese, deer meat (canned) and corn all mixed together.

We finally put a movie in my laptop for the kids around 7:30 and told them they could watch it as long as the battery lasted. I took this picture of them watching it and then the power came back on. Woohooo! 9 hours without power..we survived!

And finally a picture of Molly. I had carried blankets to the living room for us to use tonight. Molly was wiped out from running in the snow all day and thought the blankets were Heaven!

I woke up at 4am this morning when Abigail got in our bed. I looked out our bedroom window and the whole yard was lit up with the light from the moon, and the trees were casting shadows all over the snow. It was beautiful and I knew I had to try to get a picture.

I tried out the window but there was no way I could hold the camera still long enough to get enough exposure so I dug out my tripod, put on my boots and coat and went outside. Brr..it's was cold out...about zero degrees!

It took me a few minutes to figure out how to set up the shot to include themoon without wading into the 13 inches of snow. It also took me a few shots to find the right exposure but I finally got it.

I was so happy with the way this turned out. For you photographers: focal lenght 17mm, f2.8, ISO 400, shutter speed 4 seconds, focus - maual.

After playing in the snow we decided to makes some valentines. I bought some sponges and cut hearts out of them, and we stamped different patterns onto cardstock.

Caleb only wanted to use orange, Abigail used more of a variety. We didn't have green so Abigail mixed some green for us. :)

We woke up this morning to falling snow..forecast originally of 3-7 inches, then upped to 12 inches. The snow was falling steady and fast...most of the day it was coming straight down. We ended up with 13 inches.

Of course the kids wanted to go out first thing but it was only 14 degrees out. So I decide to bring some snow in bowls into them. Caleb wanted to use his cubing Wall-E to make snow cubes and Abigail made some snowballs.

We did go out around noon but it was not much warmer. It was a light powdery snow and the kids and Molly had so much fun playing in it!

It was light enough you could blow it.

Caleb would stand up, hold his arms up straight, and fall forward in the snow.

right after this Caleb lost Wall-E's head/eyes. We'll have to wait until all the snow is gone to find it.

Abigail frequently gets bloody noses, especially in the winter. Tonight after they went to bed, Caleb fell fast asleep. Abigail came out a little later and said she thought her nose was going to bleed, and sure enough it did.

She wanted Daddy to hold her, and after it quit bleeding she closed her eyes and went to sleep on Daddy's lap. He was asleep soon after her.

Ryan has been working so hard to clean out the computer room/spare bed room. He has thrown away/burned 10 years worth of old paperwork, moved bookshelves, cleaned the closet, and put stuff in the attic. All to make room for an area for the kids...so that we can work with them, learning to read and write and all that good stuff!

Today I hung some posters on the wall and moved their little table and chairs in the room. We did a little over an hour of schoolwork. It was so nice to have all that space.

Ryan built a grow rack to start seeds to plant in our garden..instead of having to buy them from greenhouses/etc.

Today Ryan and the kids filled the planters up with soil, and planted some seeds...Cabbage, Brocolli, and Onions?

January 24 - Sad Abigail

Grandma gave Abigail & Caleb each a balloon to bring home with them from Big Pap's party. They held tight to those balloons all the way home...gasping in fear every time we opened the car door...afraid that they would fly away. This has happened to them a couple times, so they were being extra cautious.

We got home, Abigail got out of the car holding tight to the string....and the balloon slipped off the end of the string. The knot must have slipped. Abigail watched sadly as her balloon slipped into the night sky.

Daddy tried consoling her as we carried stuff into the house, but even after getting pj's on for bed, she was still sad about her balloon, and needed Daddy to comfort her. (he was able to get her to smile after telling her that her balloon is going around through the sky telling everyone Happy Birthday!)

Molly is know by many names: Molly, Molly Mutt, Molly Mooch, Molly black, Molly Pink, Dumb Dog, Stupid Mutt, Moocher..and the list goes on. (we do love her, we just like to call her names)

Molly loves to sleep. She is a champion sleeper. Anywhere and anytime she can, except when she's watching out the window. And when she sleeps, and relaxes, she stretches out, flips on her back, and snores. And when she's completely relaxed..you see teeth...

January 23 - Big Pap's 60th Birthday/Retirement Party

Ryan's mom had his Dad (Big Pap) a surprise 60th birthday/retirement party on Saturday 1/23. We were able to keep it a secret up until 20 minutes before the party when he rode around the church parking lot and saw all of our vehicles, and caught Ryan in the parking lot. He didn't even know that we were in from Virginia. Ryan told him to head back to the house and pretend like he didn't know anything. He did and ryan's cousin brought him over 20 minutes later. He was surprised though at the number of people that came out to help him celebrate.

Crabtree Falls

A group of us (Me, Abigail & Caleb, Robert, Mona, Hannah & Caleb, and Sonya & Kyrsten) decided to go to Crabtree Falls for a hike up the trail, and hopefully see the falls frozen over. We went around this time last year with no problem. But what we forgot was that we had around 20 inches of snow, and not all of it had melted there.

The road goign to the parking lot had ice on it, and once we parked and stepped out we knew we were in trouble. It was like a bumpy ice rink.

Everyone held on tight, to someone or something...

We made it safely to the first landing...500 feet from the parking lot!

Mona told us to go on..she would wait for the others but we weren't leaving. A short time later Sonya, Kyrsten & Hannah came down the trail with a lady and her two daughters. The lady and one daughter had slipped over the edge of the trail and were slightly injured. The daughter caught herself on a rock, the mom went tumbling down the hill. Sonya treated their injuries...

In the fall, the mom lost her keys and was 3 hours from home. We loaded them in the car to get them warm, gave them some snacks and drinks and drove them to meet her other daughters. They were shook up and somewhat in shock, but overall ok. The mom was checked out the next day and had no broken bones, and all are doing well now.

We went to Jake & Brody's house for a playdate today. On the way home we stopped at Dollar General to pick up a few things and the kids wanted these SpongeBob crabby patty gummies so we got them. Abigail ended up not really liking them..can you tell by the look on her face?

Caleb liked them but was saving them..not sure what for. The thing I notice in the picture though...that boy sure has a hard time keeping his hands/fingernails clean. He's all boy for sure!

Then we decided to make chocolate chip cookies...just because we wanted to.

We (I) decided to play school/teacher again. Abigail was willing, Caleb wasn't, but he did it. I had them write their name, and we worked on long and short vowels again.

They have been having a blast with the box that the TV came in. Sometimes it's a teacher's desk, sometimes it's the Mystery Machine, and sometimes it's just something fun to climb in and out of or somewhere to hide.

We picked up this belated Christmas present today....a gift from Ryan's parents and from ourselves combined. All I can say is WOW!

We got our old TV about 10 years ago..it was Dad & Mom's and the picture went out. They gave it to us and we took it to the repair shop...and for $78 had a "new" TV. It has been a good TV and still works, although it comes on slow, sometimes doesn't turn off when you turn it off, and the colors are not as vibrant as they used to be.

Sooo...although Ryan said we'd never have a big TV like this (GASP - a man who DIDN'T want a huge TV)...we have one now. And we're all enjoying it! The old TV and entertainment center are going somewhere this weekend. :)

I'm told often that my kids look so happy in the photos that I take of them. They ARE happy kids, but it's not always quite that easy getting that happy shot. Especially when one of them is already in a pouty mood about something. There are several cute shots in here..but of course I had to have that "PERFECT" shot, which there never is because everyones idea of perfect is so different!

It started out good. They love candy canes and had seen their cousins pictures with candy canes so they wanted to do them too.

But I should have seen how it was heading. They wanted to know why the hats had balls on them. Rule #1 - Never let them get distracted. Luckily I nipped this distraction before it got started too much.

Abigail does a great job of trying to get her brother to cooperate. Anything to make him laugh usually works, but if he gets focused (fixated) on something (an idea,whatever) then it can be a tough go of it.

Come on Caleb..you can smile for Mom"..

Maybe if I keep this look on my face, she'll finally give in...

The kids got two Burger Builder Play-Doh sets for Christmas (one from Kayla, one from Uncle Noel) and I think they have played with them every day.

We got up early and took our friend Miss Connie to the doctor. Connie had surgery done on her eyelids and eyebrows (tore muscle in her eyelid?) and it was time to get the stitches out. This is after the stitches were out..she's had a rough couple of weeks. We went to get her hair done later in the day but forgot to get a picture.

Abigail and Caleb were wiped out from getting up so.early (7:15am is early for them)so they fell asleep on the way home. I was able to carry them in and keep them asleep...their first afternoon nap in a long time. Of course that meant a late bedtime.

We were supposed to be getting a snowstorm and as we were driving home you could see the storm coming in. This pictures doesn't show it the best, but blue skies on the left, storm rolling in on the right.

We started out the morning by making Abigail's favorite...pancakes. It's mainly her favorite because she gets to help make them.

Midmorning they watched one of their favorite PBS shows - Caliou. I didn't realize it was so hard to get a picture of a show on TV...and I didn't take a picture of the kids and show that they were STILL in their pajamas. :)

Later we picked Hannah up from school and took her to her house. I've been carrying their scooters around for a few days in case the weather got a teeny bit warmer and maybe they could ride a little bit. So it got up to 37 today and they rode a few minutes at Mona's house. Abigail's head looks funny with her hat on under her helmet. :)

Hannah took a ride on Caleb's scooter too. :)

Yesterday the kids picked up the book "Hot Dog" and started reading it. We had read it to them once the night before. We love the Step into Reading books!

Another semi-lazy day here. The kids basically played all day again today. I did get the kitchen and living room cleaned. The next project needs to be to get the Christmas decorations down.

The kids took a bath this evening. They love playing with their toys in the tub and will stay in there for a loooong time playing. Caleb's favorite toy right now is the Batcave and characters so of course he took some of them in the tub with him. Abigail just likes to play with anything she can dip and scoop water in.

It was Brrrr Cold again today so we kept the fire/fireplace going all day. The living room stays toasty warm

They like to tie blankets around their necks and pretent to be Superheroes. Here they are being their current favorite superheroes...Dash & Violet from "The Incredibles".

Ryan got the kids a webcam for Christmas so they can talk to Big Pap & Little Grandma. We got it hooked up on our end...waiting for it to bed hooked up on their end so they can see each other and talk. :)

We had a lazy day with nothing to do and nowhere to go. We didn't even make it to church..we got home from WV late and by the time we got everyone clean and in bed, there was no way we would get up in time for church.

The kids spent the day playing with all their toys that they left behind when we headed to WV on Christmas Day. Notice they were still in their PJ's...we all were, all day. Those are the best days!

It was soooooo cold outside (12 degrees) that we had a hard time getting the house warm so we built a fire in the fireplace. At least it warmed the living room up.

We finished up the day by playing their new game they got from their great-grandma Mimmie. The game is "5 Monkeys Jumping on the Bed".

When the monkeys landed on a spot, they had to act out what it showed them doing to get ready for bed.

My friend asked me to take these picture as a gift to her husband, and we worked together to make it into a collage. She was thrilled with how it turned out...and I was too. It looks so much better in person!

We are having a winter blizzard here, about 20 inches and counting. The kids wanted to go out and play for a while this morning..they could barely wade through it. I remember snows like this from when I was a kid..I hope they remember these snowfalls when they get older!

Molly absolutely LOVED it and would spend all day out if we would let her.

I wanted to try something a little different this year and this idea came to me. I think it turned out really cute.

My kids put up with so much from me taking pictures. You can't really tell, but the wind was blowing and it was cooooold the day we took these pictures. I let them sit in the car nice and cozy warm while I got it set up then got them out and hurried them through the pictures. Brrrr...such good sports though! I love them sooo...

I took some senior pics of Amethyst, the daughter of a a longtime friend of mine. I picked her up at 7:30am (yes, I made her late for school) and we didn't even drive a mile to get all the pictures we needed. Her Pap has an old farm with a beautiful barn on it, and we took advantage of it!

YIKES this girl is beautiful, and I don't know if she realizes it! She has the most intense green eyes...they look straight through you!

We took the kids to teh Pumpkin Patch the other day. They loved it, and ws so excited about everything. We did a hayride to pick our pumpkin out of the field, ate some hotdogs, petted and fed some animals, and played on the tractor and other playground. They also did the haybale maze which they loved! What a fun way to spend a fall day!

I asked Ryan to pick up some handsoap from the store and while there, instead of new bottles of handsoap, he picked up a big refill bottle. That night him and Abigail mixed up some handsoap for the foaming handsoap dispensers, and he calculated the cost - 6.7 cents per refill! An awesome way to save money!

Ryan took Caleb squirrel hunting this afternoon, and Caleb had to take his toy gun with him. He loves his Daddy, and loves being with him.
